Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade has secured a partnership with the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) to establish nurseries, demonstration farms and a sub-station in the state. The agreement followed a strategic visit by Akinlade to NIFOR's headquarters in Benin City, Edo State, where he held discussions with the institute's management on areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and expanding opportunities for farmers across Ogun State. The proposed initiative is expected to facilitate farmers' access to improved agricultural technologies, enhance local expertise, encourage the adoption of modern farming methods and promote the development of palm-related agricultural value chains within the state.Beyond improving farming practices, the partnership is also expected to contribute to broader economic growth through agricultural transformation, rural development and employment generation, while creating opportunities to improve the livelihoods of farmers and other residents of Ogun State. The establishment of the proposed facilities would bring NIFOR's research expertise and technological innovations closer to local farmers, potentially strengthening agricultural activities and encouraging greater investment in the sector.NIFOR is Nigeria's leading research institute mandated to conduct research, provide training and disseminate improved technologies across the value chains of oil palm, coconut palm, date palm, raffia palm and the shea tree. The partnership marks a significant step towards harnessing Ogun State's agricultural potential, with a focus on promoting sustainable farming practices, strengthening rural economies and creating new opportunities within the agricultural sector.
